Saltillo Fiesta del Santo Cristo Causes Street Closures and Route Changes
The annual Fiesta del Santo Cristo in Saltillo, Coahuila, began on August 5 with the closure of several central streets to accommodate more than 500 food stalls, merchandise booths, and amusement rides. Authorities redirected traffic and advised drivers to use alternate routes, keeping major arteries such as Paseo Capital and Juárez open for pedestrians and access to the Cathedral of Santiago.
Around 100 traffic officers, municipal police, and tourist police were deployed to manage crowds and ensure safety around the historic center. Public‑transport routes of the free‑fare program "Aquí Vamos Gratis" were temporarily altered for both north‑south and south‑north lines. The closures are expected to remain in effect through the Thursday celebration on August 6 and will be lifted in the early hours of Friday, August 7, after vendors dismantle their structures and cleanup is completed.
