Saltillo judiciary confirms detention of woman in Rocky animal cruelty case
The judicial process regarding the death of Rocky, a 14-year-old Great Pyrenees dog in Saltillo, remains a point of intense social tension. The animal died in July 2026 after being tied to a vehicle and dragged through the streets by its owner, Liliana “N”.
Following recent uncertainty regarding the defendant's legal status, the State Judiciary clarified that Liliana “N” remains in preventive detention at the Saltillo Women's Penitentiary. The confusion arose after a scheduled hearing for a conditional suspension of the process was canceled at the request of the defense, leading to public concerns that the accused might be released.
Animal rights collectives, including the association Dignidad Animal, have organized protests to demand transparency and ensure the criminal process continues until a final sentence is reached. Additionally, activists have raised concerns regarding the handling of the dog's remains, which are currently held at the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo), as they seek legal custody of the remains.
