Saltillo launches soccer tournament to build ties with local gangs

The Saltillo Commissioner of Security and Citizen Protection has launched the second edition of the ‘Calle por Cancha’ (Street for Court) soccer tournament. The program is designed to strengthen trust and foster coexistence between local gangs and the police through sports.

According to Alexis Morales Hernández, Director of Social Proximity and Crime Prevention, 40 gangs from various neighborhoods across the west, east, and south of the city are participating. The tournament began in the Gustavo Espinoza Mireles neighborhood.

Security Commissioner Miguel Ángel Garza Félix and Social Welfare official Raúl Madrazo de la Peña emphasized that the initiative is part of Mayor Javier Díaz González’s broader security policy to maintain links with youth in different sectors of the city. Participants include members of the Municipal Police and the Southeast Reaction Group, with invitations extended to representatives from the Army and the National Guard.
