Saltillo lauded for safety rankings and marks 449 years of history
The second‑quarter 2026 Encuesta Nacional de Seguridad Pública Urbana placed three Coahuila cities among Mexico’s five safest: Piedras Negras ranked second, Saltillo third and Torreón fifth. Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas credited the state’s security model—prevention, proximity, intelligence and coordination—and announced a historic security budget of more than 4 billion pesos, the construction of 18 new barracks and five road‑security arches.
On 24‑25 July 2026 the city celebrated its 449th anniversary. A solemn Cabildo session featured Governor Jiménez presenting the Presea Saltillo 2026 to entrepreneur Luis Arizpe Jiménez, Colegio San José and a post‑mortem honor to Carlos de la Peña Ramos. The festivities included live concerts, a videomapping show on the cathedral façade, performances by Filippa Giordano and other artists as part of the Festival Internacional de las Artes, underscoring Saltillo’s reputation as one of the nation’s most livable and economically competitive cities.
In parallel, 282 members of the local police force received training in psychological first aid and “Código 100” to improve crisis response and suicide‑prevention, reflecting the broader effort to sustain public safety.
