Saltillo records high inflation rate compared to national average

Saltillo, Coahuila, recorded one of the highest consumer price increases in Mexico during the first half of August 2026. According to data from INEGI, the city's biweekly inflation reached 0.34 percent, which is 3.4 times higher than the national average of 0.10 percent.

The price surge in Saltillo coincides with a broader upward trend in national inflation, which rose from 3.10 percent in early July to 3.26 percent by the first half of August. Local price pressures were driven by the start of the school year, affecting educational services and tuition, as well as increases in urban transport costs.

Specific food items also contributed to the rise, with significant price hikes seen in onions (19.03 percent), serrano chili (8.92 percent), and eggs (7.92 percent). This trend contrasts with other areas in the state, such as Acuña, which saw a negative biweekly inflation of 0.11 percent.
