Saltillo to hold memorial for victims of 1972 Puente Moreno train accident

In Saltillo, Mexico, a commemorative event titled “Ofrenda por los que se fueron con San Francisco: un homenaje a las víctimas del trenazo de Puente Moreno” will be held on September 29 at 8:00 PM. The tribute honors the victims of the 1972 train derailment in Puente Moreno, where a train carrying pilgrims returning from San Francisco de Asís celebrations crashed.

Organizers are requesting that residents of Saltillo bring photographs of family members who died or disappeared in the tragedy to participate in the memorial. The event will feature reflections by writer and historian Víctor Antero Flores, who will address the accident from social, historical, and philosophical perspectives. Other participants include José Adán Lara Camarillo, the “Vida Nueva” music ministry, and author Ana Patricia García Ramírez, whose novel “Voces del tren peregrino” is inspired by the historical event.
