Salto environmental group opposes waste management outsourcing

The Asociación Civil Ambientalista de Salto (ACAS) has expressed opposition to a decision by the Salto Intendencia to outsource waste management for up to 12 years. The plan, authorized by the Salto Departmental Board, includes both garbage collection and the management of the municipal landfill.

ACAS president Adriana Carabajal argued that waste collection and management are fundamental municipal functions that should remain under the direct responsibility of the Intendencia. She also criticized the proposed plan to develop a composting plant at the existing landfill site and echoed concerns from municipal workers regarding a lack of investment in necessary machinery.
