Salto football player dies after sudden medical emergency

An 18-year-old football player, Edilson Júnior Barros da Silva, also known as Juninho, died after suffering a sudden medical emergency during an amateur match in Salto, São Paulo.

The incident occurred during a game between Operários and Favela Santa Cruz. According to reports, the player collapsed on the field and suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. While organizers stated that support teams performed initial emergency maneuvers, reports indicate the victim was transported to the Hospital Municipal Nossa Senhora do Monte Serrat by third parties rather than an ambulance.

The club Favela Santa Cruz released a statement mourning the loss of the player, describing him as a “great hero” who fought until the end. Local authorities have been contacted regarding the circumstances of the event and the reported lack of an ambulance at the scene.
