Salvador B. Gautier Hospital intervened due to structural collapse risks

The Salvador B. Gautier Hospital in Santo Domingo has been cordoned off by police and military forces following reports of structural risks. The intervention, ordered by the Servicio Nacional de Salud (SNS), follows a report by the engineering firm Guillén Rosa y Asociados which identified vulnerabilities in the professional building.

Due to the risk of collapse, authorities have decided to proceed with a controlled demolition of the affected structure to make way for a new building. The SNS has announced an investment of approximately 1,000 million pesos for the hospital's modernization, which includes a new emergency area capable of accommodating over 30 beds and a trauma shock unit.

Medical services have been partially relocated to ensure continuity of care. A provisional emergency unit has been established in the former physiotherapy area, though it is currently limited to handling ambulatory cases and cannot receive critical patients or complex emergencies. Some medical specialties, such as otorhinolaryngology, are temporarily unavailable during this transition.
