Salvador beaches: 23 locations declared unfit for swimming

The Institute of Environment and Water Resources (Inema) has classified 23 beach locations in Salvador as unfit for swimming for the upcoming weekend. The classification is based on monitoring results, specifically analyzing the presence of Escherichia coli (E. coli) to determine water quality according to national environmental standards.

The affected areas span various regions of the capital, including well-known spots such as Porto da Barra, Itapuã, Farol da Barra, Rio Vermelho, and Piatã. Other unsuitable locations include São Tomé de Paripe, Tubarão, Periperi, Penha, Bogari, Bonfim, and Boca do Rio.

In contrast, several areas remain suitable for bathing, including Contorno, Ondina, Amaralina, Pituba, Patamares, and Stella Maris. Across the entire coastline of Bahia, 66% of the 147 monitored points—totaling 97 locations—were classified as suitable for swimming.
