Salvador capuchin monkey dies after invading luxury condominium

A capuchin monkey named Alcebíades died following an incident at the Alphaville 2 condominium in Salvador, Brazil. The animal, owned by former state deputy Marcell Moraes, reportedly invaded several residences on October 5, breaking a glass shower enclosure and injuring five people, including a five-day-old infant.

After a three-hour operation by the Environmental Protection and Policing Company (Coppa), the monkey was captured and taken to the Wildlife Triage Center (Cetas). The Institute of Environment and Water Resources (Inema) reported that the animal arrived in critical condition, unconscious and with facial injuries. While an autopsy suggested possible intoxication, specific substances could not be confirmed, and a necropsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death.

Marcell Moraes has publicly called for an independent investigation, alleging that the animal may have been poisoned by neighbors. He is seeking accountability for the circumstances surrounding the monkey's death, from the moment of contact with residents through its time under the care of authorities.
