Salvador capuchin monkey injures five people after invading homes

A capuchin monkey caused chaos at a residential complex in the Paralela region of Salvador, Brazil, on Monday, injuring five people. The animal reportedly broke a glass shower enclosure and entered a bedroom containing a five-day-old infant.

According to the Bahia Military Police, the monkey's aggressive behavior may have been influenced by the ingestion of 70% alcohol and a blister pack of medication found inside one of the invaded homes. The victims included three residents, a security guard, and a military police officer, all of whom received medical attention.

The animal was captured by the Environmental Policing and Protection Company (COPPA) after a three-hour operation. Following its capture, the monkey was transported to the Wild Animal Screening Center (Cetas), where specialists noted the animal appeared debilitated. While residents claimed the monkey has a legal owner, the responsible party was not present during the incident.
