Salvador expands road corridors, cutting travel times across city neighborhoods

The Bahia state government has opened several new road connections in Salvador, linking populous districts such as Cajazeiras, Lobato, Águas Claras, Fazenda Grande and Nova Brasília to the city’s main transit arteries. A March 2025 project created a direct link from Cajazeiras to Avenida 29 de Março, costing R$ 45.9 million and adding pavement, drainage, accessible sidewalks and bike lanes. In October 2025, a R$ 17.5 million extension connected Lobato to BR‑324, improving access to the metro‑bus complex and widening the north‑south marginal roads. The largest investment, R$ 161.7 million, delivered viaducts, access ramps and a subterranean passage in Águas Claras, tying the area to the new passenger terminal and the upcoming Salvador bus station. These works are part of the Transversal Corridors I and II – the “Linha Azul” (Patamares ↔ Lobato) and “Linha Vermelha” (Piatã ↔ Águas Claras ↔ BR‑324) – which together span roughly 32 km and integrate the coastal zone, city centre, the railway suburb and the BR‑324 highway.

The upgrades aim to shorten travel distances, ease congestion and enhance safety for thousands of motorists, public‑transport users, cyclists and pedestrians daily.
