Salvador Illa attends total solar eclipse at Observatori de l’Ebre
Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat, attended the total solar eclipse at the Observatori de l’Ebre in Roquetes, Tarragona. During the event, Illa advocated for increased scientific investment and outreach, stating, “We want more science. We want a lot of science.”
He described the eclipse observation as a “project for the country,” noting that preparations had been underway for approximately 18 months involving coordination between the regional government, local municipalities, and the scientific community. To support the observatory, the Generalitat has allocated 2 million euros for improvements.
A key component of the initiative was universal accessibility. In collaboration with ONCE, specialized sensory technologies and adapted observation points were installed to allow blind and visually impaired individuals to experience the event.
