Salvador Illa defends amnesty and pension system

Catalan President Salvador Illa has addressed two major political issues: the implementation of the amnesty law for 'procés' leaders and the stability of the pension system.

Regarding the amnesty, Illa criticized the Junts party for its perceived contradictions, suggesting they maintain certain ties with the People's Party (PP) despite opposing the amnesty. He emphasized that the votes from the PSC and ERC were essential for the exoneration of the leaders to be approved, noting that without these votes, the amnesty would not have been applied.

On the subject of pensions, Illa defended the current system as a “maximum expression of intergenerational solidarity.” He responded to criticisms from figures such as Sílvia Orriols of Aliança Catalana, who described the system as a “pyramid scheme.” Illa argued that those questioning the model are seeking to profit from private alternatives, asserting that the current system remains perfectly sustainable.
