Salvador Illa prioritizes forest management and renewable energy in Catalonia
During a government meeting at the Monestir de les Avellanes, President Salvador Illa outlined key priorities for the new political term, focusing on forest management, renewable energy, and public services. A major agreement was signed with the provincial councils of Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, and Lleida to enhance forest management and fire prevention, with a goal to triple public forest management to an average of 2,000 hectares annually.
In energy policy, Illa inaugurated the largest solar park in Catalonia in Alcarràs (Lleida). The facility, involving Solaria and Ignis, provides 300 megawatts of power, nearly doubling the region's installed ground-based solar capacity. While advocating for energy autonomy and the implementation of the Territorial Sectoral Plan for Renewable Energies (Plater), Illa called for dialogue with local municipalities but warned that the government would take necessary decisions to ensure progress.
Separately, political tensions have emerged in Valencia following a fire that burned 37.23 hectares in Devesa del Saler. Local opposition groups have criticized the municipal government's prevention measures and budget execution, while the administration defends its management and blames previous leadership for lack of action.
