Salvador Illa's Catalan Government Secures Broad Parliamentary Support

The governing coalition of President Salvador Illa in Catalonia has achieved a high level of parliamentary backing, according to the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC). The PSC reports that ERC and Catalunya en Comú voted in line with the government on 84.3% of solo initiatives and up to 87.2% when proposals were jointly presented, supporting 107 out of 127 votes on decrees and bills.

The coalition has also repeatedly blocked requests for urgent appearances by Illa before the Parliament, citing the need for thorough information before debate. On at least eight occasions, including a July 2026 request related to PISA test results, PSC, ERC and Comuns voted against a rapid plenary session, postponing the president’s appearance to later dates. The government has presented 68 decrees or bills, with 47 already voted on and 46 receiving approval.
