Bahia and Sergipe implement urban planning and marine conservation measures

Various environmental and urban development initiatives are underway across the state of Bahia and neighboring Sergipe. In Salvador, the city has begun installing maritime buoys at Porto da Barra to create a 90-meter exclusive zone for swimmers, preventing motorized boat access to increase safety. Additionally, the municipal government has authorized R$ 1.6 million for technical studies by BR Marinas S/A to evaluate the feasibility of public marinas at Ponta do Humaitá.

Urban planning is also a major focus, with experts meeting in Salvador to discuss the revision of the city's Master Plan (PDDU) and land use laws based on studies by FGV. Similarly, Lauro de Freitas has signed service orders to begin updating its own PDDU, which has not been revised since 2008.

Environmental concerns include the management of invasive species and wildlife protection. In Porto Seguro, nearly 500 lionfish—an invasive species with venomous spines—were removed from the coast in one month through a bounty program for fishermen. Meanwhile, a federal court order in Sergipe and Bahia has mandated emergency measures to protect the manatee Astro, including vessel speed controls and mandatory propeller protectors, following numerous boat collisions.
