Salvador-Itaparica Bridge construction moves forward with new offshore platform

In July, the construction of the Salvador-Itaparica Bridge in Bahia advanced to a new phase. At the Vera Cruz site, crews began concrete work on the foundations that will support the Temporary Linear Platform (PLP) and demolished remaining structures in the area. Equipment such as large‑capacity cranes, vibratory and percussion hammers, and a guide structure for positioning metal piles are being assembled and tested for offshore installation.

The PLP, running parallel to the future bridge over an 11.2‑km stretch, will allow continuous transport of workers, materials and heavy machinery regardless of tides, winds or waves. According to Bahia’s Infrastructure Secretary Saulo Pontes, the platform should cut boat traffic in the Bay of All Saints by about 70% and improve waste‑management during construction. SVPonte project superintendent Ubaldo Brito added that the platform will enhance safety, predictability and environmental control for the bridge’s foundation and super‑structure works.
