Salvador judge blocks Flávio Bolsonaro honorary title ceremony

A judge in Bahia has blocked the Salvador City Council from presenting a citizen title to Senator Flávio Bolsonaro, a presidential candidate, during a scheduled ceremony this Saturday.

Judge Carla Graziela Costantino de Araújo issued the injunction following a public legal action. The ruling suspends the ceremony and the planned temporary relocation of the City Council's headquarters to the Farol da Barra tourist site. The judge stated that holding the event during the 2026 election cycle could compromise administrative impersonality, potentially turning an official ceremony into a partisan promotional event. Additionally, the court noted that moving the legislative headquarters would cause disproportionate and unnecessary public spending.

The decision includes a R$ 500,000 fine for non-compliance. While the timing of the ceremony is blocked, the judge clarified that the legal validity of the resolution granting the title itself remains intact. The move follows significant public opposition, including petitions with tens of thousands of signatures against the honorific.
