Brazil police investigate multiple cases of femicide and sexual assault
Several criminal investigations involving sexual violence and femicide are underway across Brazil.
In Marabá, Pará, Douglas dos Santos Ferreira was arrested in flagrante for the femicide of his ex-partner, Layane Rodrigues de Sousa. The victim was shot while waiting for motorcycle repairs. Authorities are investigating if the motive was linked to the victim's discovery of the suspect's alleged involvement in another homicide.
In Salvador, Bahia, a man was arrested for the suspected drugging and rape of a Dutch tourist at Porto da Barra beach. The victim reported being punched and forced into sexual intercourse after losing consciousness, possibly due to a substance in her drink. The suspect claims the encounter was consensual.
Other reported incidents include the arrest of a shopkeeper in Itabirito, Minas Gerais, accused of raping a 16-year-old employee, and an investigation into a boatman in Maceió, Alagoas, accused of sexual harassment against a tourist during a boat tour. Additionally, a man was apprehended in Espírito Santo for a 2007 child rape case that occurred in Sergipe.
