Márcio Canella investigated for alleged criminal negotiations

The Federal Police are investigating Márcio Canella, an elected state deputy and former mayor of Belford Roxo, for his alleged involvement in political negotiations with the Comando Vermelho criminal faction. The investigation, part of Operation Unha e Carne, suggests that Canella may have brokered an agreement to remove criminal barricades to facilitate municipal works. In exchange, the criminal group would reportedly receive a reduction in police operations and regain territorial control once the works were completed.

Additionally, authorities are investigating whether Canella used his political influence to protect a money laundering scheme operating through a network of gas stations. Canella was arrested preventively following an order from Supreme Federal Court Minister Alexandre de Moraes.
