Salvador public transport to accept QR Code payments

Public transport in Salvador, Brazil, will soon accept payments via QR Code. The initiative, announced by the Municipal Secretariat of Mobility (Semob), aims to provide more payment options and facilitate a gradual transition from cash to electronic systems to increase safety for passengers, drivers, and collectors.

The new system will initially undergo testing exclusively on BRT lines. Following this evaluation period, there are plans to expand the technology to the Sistema Integra bus lines.

To use the service, passengers must use the KIM recharge application. Users will need to register, create a virtual card, and purchase credits exclusively via Pix. Once credits are acquired, the user selects their intended bus line to generate a QR Code, which remains valid for 30 minutes. The code is scanned at the vehicle's validator to complete the boarding process.
