Salvador Sobral returns music to Spotify

Musician Salvador Sobral has announced he will return his music to Spotify, reversing a decision made in February to remove his albums from the platform. Sobral described Spotify as a ‘Goliath too strong to face alone,’ noting that the platform’s monopoly on the music listening industry makes it necessary for him to be present to reach audiences and sell concert tickets.

Sobral previously withdrew his music to protest the platform’s low royalty payments to authors and its promotion of AI-generated music. He admitted that his attempt to spark a collective boycott among colleagues and the public did not gain the traction he had hoped for. While he is returning his catalog to the service, he stated that his principles remain unchanged and he will continue to boycott the platform as a user, preferring services like Qobuz.

His upcoming single, ‘A flor do recomeço,’ and his new album of the same name, scheduled for release in October, will also be available on Spotify.
