Salvador to expand Arena Aquática capacity to 3,000 spots

Salvador Mayor Bruno Reis has announced plans to expand the capacity of the Arena Aquática Salvador from 1,000 to 3,000 spots by 2026. The decision follows high demand for the facility’s free swimming lessons, which saw 22,000 applicants for only 1,000 available slots via lottery.

In addition to the expansion of the existing facility in Pituba, the mayor detailed further infrastructure developments. These include the construction of a new aquatic arena in Rio Sena, which is currently 80% complete and expected to open in 2027, and a new sports complex in Paripe, with construction scheduled to begin this week.
