Salvador to pay R$ 94 million to teachers via Fundef funds

The Salvador City Hall has announced that municipal teachers eligible for Fundef (Fund for the Maintenance and Development of Primary Education and Valorization of Teaching) court-ordered payments will begin receiving funds on September 17. In this initial stage, the municipality will distribute R$ 94 million to eligible professionals.

To qualify for the payment, educators must prove they performed teaching duties within the municipal network between July 1998 and December 2006. The eligibility criteria were established following the approval of complementary legislation by the Salvador City Council on August 12.

Recent legislative amendments expanded the scope of the payments to include substitute teachers and approximately 60 Level 3 professionals who had requested career progression. For the latter group, the changes may result in retroactive financial effects dating back to their initial requests. The list of qualified beneficiaries was published in the Municipal Official Gazette between August 29 and August 31.
