Salvador VLT expands service to São Joaquim station
The Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) system in Salvador and its Metropolitan Region has entered a new operational phase, connecting Calçada Station to the São Joaquim stop. This expansion follows the completion of works at Largo da Calçada and aims to improve connectivity between the Subúrbio region and other parts of the city.
The service is currently in an assisted operation phase, managed by the Companhia de Transportes do Estado da Bahia (CTB) to monitor performance and guide passengers. During this initial stage, the schedule includes three trips in the morning and three in the afternoon. Passengers at São Joaquim can connect at Calçada to services heading toward Marisqueiras.
On weekdays, the service operates from 6:30 to 16:00, while weekend hours are reduced from 9:00 to 12:00. The system now covers approximately seven kilometers, with future expansion plans intended to reach the Comércio district. The inaugural trips included invited students from the Escola Técnica de São Joaquim.
