Salvadoran culture and art featured in Mexico and Costa Rica exhibitions

Several cultural exhibitions are highlighting Salvadoran heritage and artistry in Mexico and Costa Rica.

In Mexico, the Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares is hosting ‘Entre flores y palmas: identidad, comunidad y ritual en Panchimalco’. Organized with the Embassy of El Salvador, the exhibition features 15 photographs and various artisanal pieces, including decorated coconut palms, ritual objects, and traditional clothing such as skirts made on lever looms. The display focuses on the Nahua-Pipil identity and the Cofradía de las Flores y las Palmas, documenting the intergenerational transmission of knowledge and the community organization behind the traditional May festivities.

In Costa Rica, the Centro Cultural de España will inaugurate an exhibition dedicated to the graphic work of Salvadoran artist Lastenia Araujo Serpas. Titled ‘Una mano en la luz y otra en la sombra. Grabados, 1936-1942’, the show aims to recover the artist's documentary and printmaking legacy. Curated by Elena Salamanca, the exhibition will run from October 2 to November 14, 2026, in San José. The program includes lectures, poetry recitals, and guided tours to explore Araujo Serpas's intellectual and artistic contributions to Central American history.
