Salvadoran migrant refuses arm amputation in Monclova
Omar Guzmán Dueñas, a Salvadoran migrant, has left the Amparo Pape Hospital in Monclova after repeatedly refusing a medically recommended amputation of his left arm. Guzmán Dueñas was discovered approximately three months ago in a delicate state in the municipality of Castaños, reportedly after falling from a train while attempting to travel to the United States.
The injury sustained during the fall developed into gangrene. Medical specialists informed him that the affected tissue was beyond recovery and that amputation was necessary to prevent life-threatening complications, such as septicemia.
During his three-month stay, which included free medical care, various institutions provided support, including Human Rights organizations, the Prosecutor's Office, migratory authorities, and the Consulate of El Salvador in Monterrey. Despite efforts by officials and family members in El Salvador to explain the risks and find alternatives, Guzmán Dueñas maintained his refusal and signed the necessary documentation to discharge himself from the hospital.
