Salvados returns with special on Rita Barberá
The Spanish investigative program ‘Salvados’ is launching its new season on La Sexta with a double special dedicated to Rita Barberá, the former mayor of Valencia. The program, marking its 18th anniversary, aims to reconstruct the rise and fall of the influential People's Party (PP) politician as the tenth anniversary of her death approaches.
Through interviews with political figures, journalists, and civil society representatives, the special explores Barberá’s long tenure in Valencia, her political dominance, and the legal controversies—including the Taula case—that marked her final years. The broadcast seeks to provide a multi-faceted portrait of her legacy, covering both her political successes and the personal isolation she experienced toward the end of her life.
Separately, the legacy of Barberá continues to impact Valencian politics. Recent developments in the Azud case have raised questions regarding the legal protections afforded to her, while the political fractures within the PP remain visible following historical votes regarding her senate seat.
