Salvamont Brașov acquires new high-performance search and rescue drone
The Salvamont–Salvaspeo Brașov public service has acquired a new high-performance drone designed for search and rescue missions in difficult-to-access mountain areas. The equipment features high-performance optical zoom and thermal imaging capabilities, allowing rescuers to rapidly survey large areas and identify missing or injured persons, even in low-visibility conditions.
This acquisition is part of a national project involving a partnership between Salvamont România, Vodafone România, and the Vodafone Foundation. The technology enables real-time image transmission to command centers, mapping of intervention zones, and the potential transport of essential materials.
With this addition, the 40 Salvamont services across Romania now operate a combined fleet of approximately 200 drones, making it the largest fleet of its kind in the country. Brașov also hosts one of 17 local centers for photogrammetry analysis, which connects to a National Photogrammetry Analysis Center where artificial intelligence is used to examine mission imagery.
