Salvatore Cavallaro, former professional cyclist, dies after cycling accident

Salvatore Cavallaro, a 74-year-old former professional cyclist and well-known merchant from Paternò, has passed away at the Giovanni Paolo II Hospital in Ragusa. His death follows a serious cycling accident that occurred on August 31 in Donnalucata, where he suffered severe head trauma after falling from his bicycle.

Cavallaro, who competed professionally between 1985 and 1989, had been hospitalized for approximately two weeks. His son, Alessandro Cavallaro—an Olympic cyclist from the Sydney 2000 Games—shared a tribute on social media, describing his father as a man of immense willpower and sacrifice.

Funeral services are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 15, at the Santa Barbara church in Paternò.
