Salvatore Ocone sentenced to life for Paupisi family murders
Salvatore Ocone, 59, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Court of Assize of Benevento for the murder of his wife, Elisa Polcino, 49, and their 15-year-old son, Cosimo. The tragedy occurred on September 30, 2025, in Paupisi, where Ocone attacked his family with a large stone. While his wife and son died, their 16-year-old daughter, Antonia, survived after receiving extensive medical care at the Neuromed clinic in Pozzilli.
The court also ordered eight months of daytime isolation for Ocone. Psychological evaluations confirmed that he was fully capable of understanding and willing at the time of the crimes. The court awarded compensation of 80,000 euros to Antonia and 50,000 euros to the couple's other son, Mario, who was not present during the attack.
In other Italian legal developments, the appeal process for the murder of Serena Mollicone continues in Rome, with expert testimony examining physical evidence on a door at a Carabinieri barracks. Additionally, the Court of Cassation rejected a request for a retrial in the 2006 Erba massacre case, and Antonio Ciontoli received a five-year sentence for manslaughter in the death of Marco Vannini, with the court recognizing conscious negligence but excluding intent.
