Salvatore Requirez receives Franco Di Marco literary award

Salvatore Requirez, a physician and author, has been awarded the ‘Franco Di Marco – Il Medico Scrittore’ prize. The award, supported by the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of the Province of Trapani, was presented during the ‘Cortili Narranti’ event on August 21.

The recognition honors the memory of Franco Di Marco, a physician, former council member of the Order, and prominent cultural figure in Trapani. Requirez received the award for his novel ‘La macchia’, a historical work set in 18th-century Sicily. The book explores themes such as merit, power, social inequality, individual freedom, and the responsibility of communities to value expertise.

Filippo Mangiapane, President of the Order, noted that the award creates a link between two medical professionals who combined their clinical practice with a passion for culture and writing. He described the novel as having qualities of a civil essay that addresses contemporary issues in Sicily, including development and social responsibility.
