Salwa Demnati resigns from Socialist Union of Popular Forces
Salwa Demnati, a former member of the Political Bureau and a former parliamentarian, has officially resigned from the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) and all its organizational structures. Her resignation, dated August 31, 2026, in Tangier, follows a period of internal debate and growing disagreements within the party regarding its organizational, political, and training methodologies.
Demnati stated that her decision was based on a careful monitoring of the party’s recent management practices and political choices, which no longer align with her personal convictions. Her departure follows a series of other resignations and objections within the USFP, including that of lawyer Mariam Jamal Al-Idrissi, particularly concerning the selection process for regional women's lists and allegations surrounding the ‘money for endorsement’ controversy.
Despite her departure, Demnati expressed respect for the party's members and activists, seeking to end her multi-year political journey in a responsible manner without personal attacks.
