Salzburg man accused of 68,000 euro diesel fraud scheme

A 29-year-old man living in Salzburg is facing trial for a large-scale fuel card fraud scheme involving a Croatian logistics company. According to the Salzburg Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect obtained a company fuel card through unknown means and used it 136 times between September 2025 and January 2026.

The suspect allegedly operated a scheme where he sold diesel to dozens of individuals at a heavily discounted rate of approximately one euro per liter. Customers reportedly contacted him by phone and met at a specific gas station in Salzburg to fill their vehicle tanks or plastic canisters.

The total amount of diesel misappropriated is estimated at 54,000 liters, resulting in approximately 68,000 euros in damages to the Croatian firm. The defendant faces charges of fraudulent misuse of data processing and forgery of documents. His trial is scheduled to begin at the Salzburg Regional Court on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
