Salzburg Mayor proposes new 5,000-seat stadium for Austria Salzburg
Salzburg Mayor Bernhard Auinger has proposed plans for a new football stadium in the Liefering district to accommodate Austria Salzburg. The proposed facility would feature 5,000 seats and is estimated to cost up to 20 million euros.
The current venue in Maxglan is expected to become unavailable for professional football within five years, and rising attendance in the second Bundesliga has frequently pushed the existing capacity to its limits. While Auinger previously rejected stadium construction in 2025 due to budget constraints, he now suggests a potential solution could be in place by 2030.
Alternatives to a new build are being discussed, including the potential use of the Red Bull Arena in Kleßheim or the existing stadium in Grödig, which possesses necessary infrastructure such as undersoil heating. Discussions with the club and the municipal council are expected to follow in the coming months.
