Salzburger Land celebrates 31st Bauernherbst festival
The Bauernherbst festival, often referred to as the ‘fifth season’ in Salzburger Land, is currently underway and will continue through the end of October. Now in its 31st year, the celebration features approximately 2,000 events hosted across 77 different locations throughout the region.
The festival focuses on regional traditions, music, dance, and culinary specialties. Key activities include decorated cattle parades, such as the descent from the alpine pastures in Krimml, alphorn performances in Lofer, and various folk music gatherings in towns like Bad Gastein and Großarl. The event relies on the participation of roughly 14,000 contributors, including farmers, musicians, and local volunteers.
The season officially launched in Maria Alm with a large parade featuring festive wagons and old-timer tractors. The opening ceremony included a traditional beer tapping by State Councilor Maximilian Aigner and a appearance by Olympic ski jumper and regional ambassador Jan Hörl.
