Salzburg's Mirabellgarden hosts 300 gold Mozart statues

Around 300 gold‑colored, 50‑centimetre plastic figures of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart have been installed in Salzburg’s Mirabellgarden, with additional mini‑Mozarts displayed at the Mozarteum garden, the Zauberflötenhäuschen and Mozart’s former residence. The exhibition, running from mid‑July to the end of August 2026, marks the composer’s 270th birthday.

The installation was created by German concept artist Ottmar Hörl on behalf of the International Mozart Foundation (Stiftung Mozarteum). Hörl said the anniversary was “an ideal occasion to give Mozart a compliment” and explained the production technique: “The whole figure is vacuum‑drawn and only solidifies when it cools, leaving no seams.” For safety, the Mirabellgarden area is closed at dusk. After the exhibition the figures will be sold as souvenirs.
