Sam Altman faces renewed allegations of childhood abuse from sister

New court filings in an ongoing legal dispute reveal that Ann Altman, sister of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, alleges she suffers from PTSD as a direct result of sexual abuse and rape committed by her brother between 1997 and 2006. The allegations, which date back to when she was between the ages of 3 and 12, were originally filed in a Missouri district court in 2025.

Sam Altman has denied all allegations, describing them as false and characterizing the lawsuit as an attempt at extortion. He has filed a countersuit for defamation. Altman’s mother, Connie Gibstine, and his brothers, Jack and Max Altman, issued a joint statement calling the claims ‘utterly untrue’ and suggested Ann faces mental health challenges.

In recent filings, Ann Altman rejected her family’s characterization of her mental health and denied being mentally ill, while arguing that her family maintains a narrow definition of sanity. Elon Musk reacted to the renewed allegations on social media with a brief ‘wow’. Ann Altman is scheduled to sit for a deposition on August 17.
