Sam Blackshear leaves Mysten Labs to join Anthropic for defensive AI security research
Sam Blackshear, co‑founder and chief technology officer of Mysten Labs, announced on August 5 that he is departing the blockchain company to join Anthropic as part of its defensive security research team focused on artificial‑intelligence‑driven cyber defence.
Blackshear said he will continue to serve as an adviser to Mysten Labs and the broader Sui ecosystem. Mysten’s chief executive Evan Cheng will assume responsibility for the company’s technical vision and leadership.
Anthropic is expanding its defensive cyber research as frontier AI models improve the ability to discover software vulnerabilities at scale. Blackshear is also known for creating the Move programming language, which underpins the Sui blockchain and the upcoming Move Foundation.
Following the announcement, the SUI token traded around $0.68, down roughly 1 % in 24 hours. Analysts noted a 30 % jump in stablecoin supply on the Sui network, with net inflows of about $921 000 during the same period.
