Sam Darnold cleared to return for Seahawks against Commanders

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold has been cleared to return for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Darnold, who missed the Week 2 matchup, had been sidelined since the season opener against the New England Patriots due to a glute injury. While there were initial concerns regarding a potential hip injury, further testing confirmed it was a soft-tissue issue.

Head coach Mike Macdonald described the recovery as a “medical miracle,” noting that Darnold progressed from limited practice on Wednesday to full participation by the end of the week. Darnold’s return follows a strong two-game stretch by backup Drew Lock, who led the team to victories over the Patriots and Arizona Cardinals in Darnold's absence.

Despite the boost at quarterback, the Seahawks will face defensive challenges. Starting safeties Julian Love and Ty Okada have both been ruled out, with Love sidelined by a calf injury and Okada dealing with a hamstring issue. Nose tackle Brandon Pili is listed as questionable due to a concussion and neck injury.
