Sam de Grand signs four‑year deal with AZ Alkmaar, leaving Lommel
Twenty‑one‑year‑old Dutch left‑back Sam de Grand has transferred from Belgian Challenger Pro League side SK Lommel to Eredivisie club AZ Alkmaar. The player signed a four‑year contract in Alkmaar, opting to play in the Dutch top division rather than remain in Belgium.
De Grand, a Jong Oranje international, contributed three goals and eleven assists to Lommel’s recent promotion campaign. He cited personal reasons for the move, noting that his father and other family members are long‑time AZ supporters in the Alkmaar region. Technical director Niels van Duinen said De Grand “fits well with the way AZ want to play,” highlighting his attacking ability and versatility on the left flank.
The transfer marks a step forward in De Grand’s development, with AZ hoping the youngster will strengthen their defensive options while providing extra width in attack.
