Sam LaPorta returns to Detroit Lions practice after hip injury
Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta has returned to practice following a hip injury that had cast doubt on his availability for the season opener against the New Orleans Saints on September 13.
Head coach Dan Campbell previously noted that the injury was “a little aggravated” and stated the team was resting the Pro Bowl player to allow the area to calm down. While the team is prioritizing LaPorta’s long-term health, reports indicate he has participated in both individual and full-team drills during padded sessions as the Lions conclude their training camp.
LaPorta is coming off a season that was cut short by a herniated disk requiring surgery, which caused him to miss eight games. His return to practice provides a significant boost to the Lions' offense, where he serves as a primary target for quarterback Jared Goff.
