Sam Onuigbo backs Nigerian development commissions and Abuja demolitions

Sam Onuigbo, a former member of the House of Representatives and board member of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), has expressed support for the zonal development commissions established under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Speaking in Abuja, Onuigbo stated that these commissions are designed to address specific developmental challenges within various geopolitical zones and complement state and local government efforts.

He highlighted the NEDC as a successful model for regional development, noting its role in reconstructing infrastructure and restoring livelihoods in the North-east following the Boko Haram insurgency. Onuigbo emphasized that such agencies are vital for rebuilding communities and returning displaced citizens to normalcy.

Additionally, Onuigbo voiced support for Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike’s recent directive to demolish structures obstructing waterways and drainage channels in Abuja. He argued that protecting public interest and preventing flooding should take precedence over individual property interests, particularly when buildings obstruct natural water passages.
