British singer Sam Smith confirmed in a New York Times interview that he is engaged to fashion designer Christian Cowan. The announcement coincided with details of his fifth studio album, "Hazel Eyes," scheduled for release on 21 August 2024 through Capitol Records.

The album title references Cowan's hazel‑coloured eyes, and songs such as "Everlasting Love" and the lead single "Oh Mother" were inspired by their relationship. Smith said the project marks a shift toward openly celebrating queer love, describing it as a radical act.

"Hazel Eyes" was recorded at Electric Lady Studios with a small circle of collaborators, produced by Simon Aldred and featuring contributions from Feist and multi‑instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily. The release follows his 2023 album "Gloria," which included the hit "Unholy" with Kim Petras.
