Sam Smith releases fifth studio album ‘Hazel Eyes’
Sam Smith has released their fifth studio album, ‘Hazel Eyes’, a project that marks a significant sonic and emotional shift from their previous work. Moving away from the club-focused sounds of 2023’s ‘Gloria’, the new record explores themes of romance, vulnerability, and queer love through a blend of baroque pop, British folk, outlaw country, and alternative R&B.
For the first time, Smith has taken on the role of co-producer, working closely with collaborators Simon Aldred and David Odlum. The album was largely shaped during Smith’s recent relocation to New York City and reflects a period of personal growth and happiness, including their recent engagement to fashion designer Christian Cowan.
The lead single, ‘Constant Companion’, features a cinematic Western aesthetic with dark guitar work and sweeping strings provided by Rob Moose. The accompanying music video was filmed in Spain and directed by Albert Moya. Other notable tracks include ‘My Guy’, featuring harmonies from Feist and Moses Sumney, and ‘Oh Mother’, which utilizes the 28-member TwoCity Chorus.
