Sam Sunderland begins motorcycle attempt at world speed record

Two-time Dakar Rally winner Sam Sunderland has departed from London on a mission to set a new world record for the fastest motorcycle journey around the globe. To break the current record, Sunderland must traverse approximately 29,000 kilometers across 16 countries and five continents in less than 19 days, 8 hours, and 25 minutes.

The route begins in London and travels through Europe and Asia to Australia and New Zealand, before heading to North America and North Africa, eventually returning to London. The journey involves intense physical and mental demands, with daily riding sessions lasting up to 16 hours.

Notably, the attempt has also served as an unofficial reveal for a new Triumph motorcycle model. While initial promotional materials featured the existing Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer, start-day footage shows Sunderland riding a modified version of the Tiger 1200. This updated machine features new LED headlights, a redesigned front section, and a sensor suggesting the inclusion of front-facing radar technology, potentially marking a preview of the 2027 model.
