Sam Webb retires from NFL after four days with Giants

Cornerback Sam Webb has retired from the NFL after a brief four-day tenure with the New York Giants. The 28-year-old was placed on the Giants’ reserve/retired list following one practice session and a single preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Webb’s departure follows a turbulent preseason that included a stint with the Denver Broncos earlier in August. An undrafted free agent out of Missouri Western, Webb’s professional career spanned five seasons and six different organizations, including the Las Vegas Raiders, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns.

Over 36 career appearances and five starts, Webb recorded 45 tackles, four pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one defensive touchdown. His sudden retirement is noted within the context of a growing trend of players exiting the league early due to physical toll and increased awareness of long-term injury risks.
