Sam Wright resigns as Collingwood AFLW senior coach
Sam Wright has announced his resignation as the Collingwood AFLW senior coach following a difficult season in which the team secured only one win in 11 matches. Wright will coach his final game this Sunday against Essendon at Windy Hill.
The departure occurs amid a broader crisis within the Collingwood women’s program. Reports indicate significant internal frustration regarding list management, development coaching, and medical treatment. AFL official Laura Kane reportedly intervened recently, meeting with the Collingwood board to address the situation.
The club is also facing a potential player exodus. Captain Ruby Schleicher has already announced she will not re-sign and will return to Western Australia. Several other players, including Tarni White, Sarah Rowe, Mattea Breed, Lauren Butler, and Bri Davey, are out of contract, while vice-captain Jordyn Allen is expected to seek new opportunities.
